Thorpe Grammar School, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, Norfolk, was officially opened on 21 October 1958, though it was built and in use some time before that. It ceased to be a grammar school in 1978, when it combined with Thorpe St Andrew Secondary Modern School (on the same site) to become Thorpe St Andrew (comprehensive) School.
The Thorpe Grammar School Association was created on 8 June 2000 by an active group of ex-pupils from around the 1960s. Their aim was to foster contact between former staff and pupils of Thorpe Grammar School, to interact with the present Thorpe St Andrew School to mutual advantage, and to support good causes and charitable institutions including the present Thorpe St Andrew School.
Several very successful reunions were staged in the years following our inauguration, most of which have photo galleries on this site.
Though the Association is less active now, the impetus created by the formation of the Association has led to the development of this web site, which is the only known major repository of memorabilia and photographs of the School.
Do explore this web site to discover school magazines reproduced in full, School photographs, Speech Day programmes, and even the programme of the official opening of the School in 1958. There are also many personal photos reproduced here, showing the less formal side of school life at Thorpe Grammar School.
We are always keen to add new material to this web site, and will be grateful for the loan of any items or photographs for inclusion here; please contact the webmaster directly, via the Committee page.
